About the building:

The seven-floor building on Stasjonsbakken was completed in the summer of 2007 and consists of 74 housing units, a commercial area and underground parking. The student accommodation is located on the top four floors. There are two common rooms open to all residents. All rooms and indoor common rooms are non-smoking.

The building contains different types of housing:

  • Single unit with private bathroom and shared kitchen (17 sqm). 8 residents share a kitchen.
  • Single unit with private bathroom and kitchen (19-27 sqm).
  • Couples apartments (35 sqm).

You will receive a key card (free of charge) when you move in to your student accommodation.

Garage and main door: Hold the card in front of the device reader. It will flash green. Enter your four-digit code. The door unlocks.

Unit/apartment doors: Hold the card in front of the device reader. Push down the door handle and open the door when you get a green flash and a single beep. The door will automatically lock when you close it, but may be opened from the inside using the doorknob.

NB! Do not make holes in, or write on the key card – it may stop working.

Note – buy yourself a backup key card from our service centre: Since the doors lock automatically when closed, it is possible you may get locked out. It may be a good idea to keep an extra key card at e.g. a friend's place. That way, if you loose your main key card or get locked out, you will not need to get charged. Read about what you need to do if you lock yourself out/lose your key card or need some assistance.

Error message from the device reader on unit/apartment doors: Green and red lights flash alternately: means low battery and the batteries need to be replaced immediately. If the batteries are low, the green and red lights might flash at the same time. Please let us know if the readers are in need of battery replacement.

When you move out, you need to return your key cards to our service centre. The dropbox by the mailboxes may be used as well. CAUTION! If you do not return your key card, you will be charged a fee. See the price list.

There are lifts in the building.

Cable in router

Internet via cable

A router from SSN has been placed in your apartment. To use a wired connection, you must connect the device you wish to use through this.

We recommend that you use network cables of the standard cat5e or newer.

Cable in wall - one port

Internet via cable

To use a wired connection, you can connect your device directly to the wall socket in your apartment. To connect several devices to the internet at the same time, a router must be used. The tenant must obtain this him or herself

We recommend that you use network cables of the standard cat5e or newer.

If using a router, it MUST be in NAT mode, as we only have one public IP address per apartment. Most routers have this setting as default. Note that if you are switching between devices connected directly to the wall socket, it may take up to five minutes from when you disconnect one device before the next device has internet access.

No WiFi

SSN does not provide a wireless network in this building. If there is a need for WiFi, the tenant must set this up him or herself using a wireless router etc.

Priv-ssid: Private wireless network

Own WiFi

SSID and password for your personal wireless network can be found under the internet tab on My page.

WiFi: Eduroam

This is the same wireless network that you will find on campus (in addition to a number of other locations). To log in to eduroam, you must use your student account ([email protected] + password). You obtain your student account from the university at the start of studies. More information about student accounts can be found on the USN website.

Eduroam uses wpa-enterprise for authentication. This means you need both a username and password to log in. Many devices such as smart TV, Chromecast, Apple TV and gaming consoles do not support this and therefore cannot be used on Eduroam.
