About the buildings:

The residential area is made up of ten houses with eight single units in each house, where two residents share a bathroom and kitchen. The buildings were built in 1989 and 1992. All single units and indoor common areas are non-smoking.

There are no lifts in the buildings. 

The student accommodation is located in Hovenga, only 1.2 km from USN Campus Porsgrunn and walking distance from the nearest supermarket and several other stores. The area is quiet and peaceful. Read more about Campus Porsgrunn and location at USN.

Each building is surrounded by large gardens. 

The buildings have shared spacious parking for free use by residents. 

There are shared laundry rooms on the first floor of each building, with free use of washing machine and tumble drier for residents.

Two students share one storage room in each doublet. Each house has a shared storage room / bicycle shed. 

Waste station by the parking lot. Waste shall be sorted into green and black containers. Remember to recycle!

Electricity

The property has electricity as an energy source. Electricity is included in the rent.

Internet via cable


A router from SSN has been placed in your apartment. To use a wired connection, you must connect the device you wish to use through this.

We recommend that you use network cables of the standard cat5e or newer.

To use a wired connection, you can connect your device directly to the wall socket. Authentication (login) is also required to activate the internet. You must log in with your student account ([email protected] + password). See this guide for the procedure for Windows 10.

You obtain your student account from the university at the start of studies. More information about student accounts can be found on the USN website for IT-services.

To connect several devices to the internet at the same time, a switch must be used. The tenant must obtain this him or herself. See this guide for the procedure.

Priv-ssid: Private wireless network

Private WiFi

SSID and password for your personal wireless network can be found under the internet tab on My page.

SSN external

This wireless network is reserved for tenants who do not have an account to use eduroam. If you are not a student or employee at USN you will find the password under the Internet tab on my page.

USN-guest

This is the guest network for USN. When you connect to this you will see guidance on how to register for 12 hours access.

WiFi: Eduroam

This is the same wireless network that you will find on campus (in addition to a number of other locations). To log in to eduroam, you must use your student account ([email protected] + password). You obtain your student account from the university at the start of studies. More information about student accounts can be found on the USN website.


Eduroam uses wpa-enterprise for authentication. This means you need both a username and password to log in. Many devices such as smart TV, Chromecast, Apple TV and gaming consoles do not support this and therefore cannot be used on Eduroam.

These wireless networks are only available in public areas (kitchen/lounge/hallway).
