How do I access the money in my Norwegian bank account?

Tue 29 Nov

When arriving in Norway you can receive a BankAxept card at your local SSN service center if you agree to our terms:

If you have a tenancy agreement with SSN

If you have a tenancy agreement with SSN you need to let SSN withdraw money from the resident permit bank account to pay the rent for the whole contract period, before we transfer the remaining amount to your BankAxept card.

If you do not agree with these terms, you will not get access to your money before you get a Norwegian account or you want SSN to transfer the money to your private account.

If you do not have a tenancy agreement with SSN

If you do not have a tenancy agreement with SSN, you can get your BankAxept card at your local SSN service office.

About the card

This card cannot be used on all bank terminals and cannot be used online. We therefore recommend that you get your own Norwegian bank account as soon as possible. A Norwegian bank card will make your funds more available for you than the BankAxept card. This prosess takes about three months.

When you have your Norwegian bank card, we will transfer the remaining amount from your BankAxept card to your Norwegian bank account.

We have made a guide to the application form for Norwegian bank account with D-number.

Return the BankAxept card

Before leaving Norway, please return your BankAxept card to your local service office.
