"I'll Wait Until It Gets Quiet..."
Being a teacher is like being a stand-up comedian, a psychologist, a parent, and a lecturer all at once. Everything must be learned — especially the love you develop for your students. If learning means confronting yourself, and understanding means standing face-to-face with another person, then what does it really mean to take responsibility for your own learning?
Kristian, a newly hired substitute teacher, stands in front of a fifth-grade class — a cross-section of society filled with needs, expectations, and dreams. But behind the scenes, he’s dealing with a constant internal unraveling. Facing these ten-year-olds forces him to confront his own inner child, his role as a teacher, and the system that surrounds him.
Slam poet and actor Fredrik Høyer is one of the most original voices in contemporary theatre. He performs the role of substitute teacher Kristian himself, with intimacy and razor-sharp humor, in a deeply probing text about how we understand ourselves through the eyes of others and the roles we play in each other’s lives. With surprising twists, the grey and mundane are transformed into a mythic journey that speaks to us all.
