Bø filmsalong // IO CAPITANO with guest Kristina Quintano

IO CAPITANO – Oscar-nominated odyssey from our time.
Io Capitano tells the epic story of two cousins who sailed Dakar and set off for Europe. In this odyssey from our time, the two young men must overcome a series of obstacles as they fight to survive first in the desert and then at sea. The film gives a close-up view of current issues, seen through the augo of people who are experiencing the crisis at close quarters.
Director Matteo Garrone is one of Italy's foremost filmmakers, and is behind the critically acclaimed gangster films Gomorrah (2008) and Dogman (2018). In his latest film, IO CAPITANO, he uses magical realism, magnificent landscapes and violent depictions, not to shock, but to give an insight into what it can mean to search for what appears to be a better life.

The film has been nominated to Oscar for Best International Film. Matteo Garrone won the award for Best Director, and Seydou Sarr won the "Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best New Young Actor or Actress" at the Venice Film Festival. The film has also won the Audience Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
Guest in the Film Salon is Kristina Quintano, who also visited us at the screening of the film Luzzu in 2021.
Kristina is an author and journalist, and has just returned from Tunisia, where she has spoken to young people who have both fled through the desert and who have been seen to control large fishing trawlers without knowledge. It couldn't be more relevant!
Quintano has published two books on the subject this year, which will be difficult to buy.
The ticket includes light refreshments in the lounge, after the film screening.
Co-organizer is Midt-Telemark SV.
Everyone is welcome!
