Panel Discussion: ChatGPT – Revolution or Restriction?

Revolution or Restriction: How Does ChatGPT Affect Higher Education?
It's been almost a year since ChatGPT was launched, and since then the debate has been running high about what ChatGPT really is and how higher education should respond.
ChatGPT and other generative artificial intelligence (AI) have been referred to as everything from revolution to civilizational threat, and there is still much we do not know about how AI works and the opportunities that lie in AI.
It can be a useful tool for students, but it can also stand in the way of learning and contribute to cheating.
How should we as students, teachers and researchers relate to this?
The student association Habitus at sociology at USN Business School is taking the debate, and has invited a broad-based panel that will, among other things, address the following questions:
Should we encourage the use of ChatGPT, or should we be cautious and even ban it in teaching?
Is ChatGPT a source of inspiration, or can it undermine the deep understanding we seek to achieve?
The following people sit in the panel:
Marianne Hagelia, Associate Professor of Education at HiØ
Stig Gezelius, Professor of Sociology at USN
Marius R. Johannessen, Associate Professor of IT and Management at USN
Camilla Holm Soelseth, Assistant Professor at OsloMET
Daniel K. Johnnesen, Studying Master in Social Analysis 3rd year
Camilla Ness, Studying Bachelor in Sociology 3rd year
The panel is chaired by Silje Maria Tellmann, associate professor of sociology at USN Business School.
Doors open at 5 p.m. The panel discussion starts at 6 p.m.
Admission: 50kr Members of the line association Habitus: Free
