With over 1,000 years of history in Europe, beer has become an important element of socialising and good vibes in all countries. But what do you really know about beer? Do you pick the cans or bottles closest to you when you get to the beer section, or do you spend some time looking for something special?
Tom Kjetil Olsen has extensive experience of beer, having organised more than 350 beer tastings and run the Gulating beer shop. Combining beer and some great tasting snacks gives you an insight into an exciting world of flavours. And Tom Kjetil's motto is still ‘drink better and not more’.
Tom Kjetil has tasted over 4,000 different beers himself. Through this he has also established the beer club ‘Den bitre humle’ and runs the podcast ‘Ølpodden Den bitre humle’. He brews a little himself, but is most fond of exploring the world of beer. And tastes a lot of other people's good beer. In this beer tasting, we'll be looking at Klosterstil from Belgium, Hveteøl from Germany, classic IPA from England, and Scottish dark stouts. We'll explore breweries you may never have heard of. A varied programme where you get a good insight into the differences from hops to the use of both light and dark malt. Can you taste a hint of coffee, a touch of wild strawberries, or the flavour of roasted malt - is there magic in Belgian yeast? In a dark stout from Scotland, does it taste better than a Guinness from Ireland? And can Germans make magic out of wheat? England is famous for the IPA style of beer, Indian pale ale, shaped by mango, pineapple and extreme hops, but what should it actually taste like?
