They won in the Supreme Court. But the fight wasn’t over. In Let the Mountains Live, one of Norway’s most acclaimed documentary filmmakers, Håvard Bustnes, turns his attention to the Fosen case and the state’s ongoing violations of human rights. Let the Mountains Live hits theaters nationwide on October 9th.
For over 20 years, Sami reindeer herders in Fosen have fought against Europe’s largest wind farm, built right in the middle of their most important grazing lands. When the Supreme Court rules that the facilities violate Sami human rights, it gives hope that the wind turbines will be removed. But the government still refuses to take them down. Sami youth respond by mobilizing in protest, and everything is at stake: the mountains, the culture, and the future.
