Mushroom Day in Bø

Mushrooms in Many Ways: Mushroom Day in Bø

Join us in celebrating Mushroom Day with mushroom identification, an exhibition, a lecture, and cooking demonstrations.

Come to the mushroom identification station and exhibition from 1:00 PM at Bø Bok og Papir – The Village Literary House. We will inspect your mushroom basket, prepare mushroom dishes, and offer tastings. Here, you'll discover mushrooms in many different ways.

At 2:00 PM, there will be a lecture by Pål Karlsen, Managing Director of the Norwegian Mushroom and Useful Plants Association and author of several books on foraging, mushrooms, and wild edible plants.

Signed copies of his books, including Eat Mushrooms – 200 Mushrooms You Must Taste Before You Die and The Foragers – Nature's Best Stewards, will be available for purchase at the bookstore, which also offers a wide selection of other mushroom books.

Bø Library is also celebrating Mushroom Day, featuring a display of mushroom-related books from September 1 and throughout the week following the event.

The mushroom identification service is free and open to everyone. The lecture is free for association members. Non-members pay NOK 200, while members of the Literary House pay NOK 100.

Would you like to join a mushroom foraging trip beforehand? See the separate event listed in the calendar.

What happens at the mushroom identification station?

We will have a mushroom exhibition and certified mushroom experts on site. They are ready to examine your mushroom finds and teach you more about edible and poisonous mushrooms that can be found in the local area.

The association will also provide brochures and educational materials for both children and adults.

We recommend collecting mushrooms in a basket or paper bag. It is important to bring the entire mushroom, including the cap, stem, and base, so that we can identify it correctly.

If you are unsure about different mushroom species, keep them separated. We recommend placing them in individual paper bags or small containers to prevent poisonous mushrooms from mixing with edible ones.

After the inspection, you can head home with a safe mushroom harvest and perhaps some new knowledge about mushrooms and how to prepare them.

Welcome!
