Ung Botaniker Bø, in collaboration with Naturvernforbundet, is organizing a course on identifying illegal logging. We will explore regulations and certifications, learn how to recognize violations, and identify natural forest logging in the field.
As experts on the topic, we will be joined by former logger and head of the forestry committee, as well as former director of Naturvernforbundet in Oslo and Akershus, Gjermund Andersen, and field biologist, fungi expert, and author of "Biodiversity in Forests – A Handbook on Indicator Species in Eastern Norway," Erik Kagge.
Tentative Schedule:
📅 March 21, 18:00-20:00 – Friday evening will feature a lecture by Gjermund Andersen on certification, legislation, and violations. The lecture will take place at USN Bø, Room 3-305. Light refreshments and coffee will be provided.
📅 March 22, 09:00-17:00 – Saturday will be spent in the field with Erik Kagge, focusing on identifying natural forests in logged areas and detecting violations in the clear-cut areas and timber storage sites. We will depart from USN Bø in the morning and visit different locations throughout the day. Please bring a packed lunch and dress appropriately for the weather.
