Have you decided to apply for student housing from SSN?! Yay! 🎉 Here we help you with how to apply through My page.

Who can apply?

Priority applicants are students at one of USN's eight campuses, in addition to students at Fagskolen i Viken, Kongsberg, Fagskolen i Vestfold and Telemark, Stavern Police College and Folkeuniversitetet dept. Sandefjord.

Other students and apprentices are also welcome to apply. All applicants must be over 18 years of age.

Read our criteria for allocation.

How to apply for student housing:

  1. Start by creating a user account on SSN's My Page, or log in if you already have a user.

Once you have created a user, log in with your username (the same as the email address you provided when you registered) and the password you were sent. You can change your password later on My Page.

    Student number?

When you fill out your profile on My Page, you will see that the "student number" field is not mandatory. You can come back and fill it out once you have received your student number.

  2. Now please enter our housing selector in Find student housing.

  3. Use the filter to find campus and housing type. You can only apply for housing at one campus in that specific application, but you can set up to five favorites within the same campus. You set a housing type as a favorite by clicking the heart symbol.

Create an account on My Page before setting favorites!

In order for your favorites to automatically transfer to the application, you must have created a user account on My Page before selecting it/them (you do not need to be logged in first).

  4. Your favorites list can either contain apartments (for couples or families) or single rooms (living alone), these can not be mixed in the application. Read more about our types of housing here.

  5. Once you have added the desired housings to the favorites list, select the Apply now-button that will replace the heart-button on your favourites.

  6. If you were logged in to My page, you will now automatically enter the housing application. If you were not logged in to My page, you must now select My applications and Apply for housing, before selecting Start your application.

  7. Select From and To date of your tenancy. That is, when you want to move in and out.

  8. Choose "Type of resident", i.e. what category of resident you are (for instance, "Student at USN"). If you are going to study (but are not yet formally a student), you should still choose the student option.

  9. The rest of the application form on this page is now pre-filled based on your Favorites. You can sort your favorites in order of priority (with first priority at the top) by "grabbing" the box and moving it up or down. You can also add a new wish. Adding more options to the list increases the chance that we can find something available for you.

Accept the offer, you can switch later!

If you are assigned a housing that was not your first choice, you can accept it, and then submit a new application for your first choice. Then, you will be placed on the waiting list for this type of housing and will be among the highest priority when such housing becomes available.

  10. Fill in information about any cohabitant and/or children.

  11. Add information about next of kin. We need this information in case something should happen to you while you live in our student housing.

  12. Carefully review your application and check that everything is correct. At the bottom you will find a free text field where you can fill in additional information such as disability, special needs or whether, for example, you want to live at a specific shared kitchen (if you already have friends in the building).

  13. Register your application.

  14. You will receive a confirmation of your application as soon as it is registered. You are hence placed on our waiting list. We work as fast as we can to allocate housings based on the waiting list.

Everyone who applies for student housing with SSN will be placed on a waiting list.

Unfortunately, it is hard for us to say much about your number on our waiting list or how long it will take until we have accommodation to offer you. Some applicants have priority over others for different reasons.

Those who have already applied for a unit are welcome to make changes to their application at any given moment. This results in continuous changes in the waiting list. We send out offers of accommodation consecutively, and there are always some who refuse their offer. When this happens, an offer is immediately sent out to the next person on the list. This means that there is no deadline or specific point in time when we can send offers of accommodation.

    Tip:

If you have not added more options to your application (e.g. other housing areas on the same campus or other housing types on the same property that you have already applied for), but wish to change this, you can go to My Page at any time and add more options to your application. This way you might receive an offer sooner.

If you first receive an offer for a housing type that is not your "dream unit", you can submit a new application for the latter. Move in to the unit that was offered to you, and you will and get an offer to move as soon as something becomes available from your top priority.

Read more about changing student housing unit.

If you have questions regarding your application, you are always welcome to contact us.

Only applicants that receive offers for housing will receive a reply on My page.

Since we allocate housing units on an ongoing basis, we do not reject applications. You will therefore be on the waiting list with us until:

    1. You are allocated a student housing with us, or
    2. It has been 60 days since you registered or last extended your application.

If you have not been allocated housing, and have not extended your application after 60 days, your application will be removed from the waiting list. Why do I have to extend my application?

We work as fast as we can to allocate housing, and will give you an answer as soon as possible. Thank you so much for your patience :)

  15. Please note that your application will be automatically deleted after 60 days. You must therefore log in to My Page and extend your application before 60 days have passed, if you still want to be on our waiting list for housing. This can be done when there is 15 days or less left until your application is deleted. You will receive reminders in advance.

    Extending the application

If you end up being on the waiting list for student housing at SSN for a long time, and still want an offer from us, you must extend your application to avoid it being deleted.

You will remain on SSN's waiting list until:

    1. You have been allocated a housing unit.
    2. It has been 60 days since you registered or last extended your application.

The reason why we have to delete applications that have not been extended after 60 days is simply to keep our lists updated. This way we can adjust the waiting lists automatically, and applicants who no longer need housing (and who have not remembered to delete their application) no longer take up space in the waiting list.

This also applies if you have applied to change from one SSN housing unit to another, and may be waiting for the "right" student housing unit to become available.

    To extend your application:

You can easily extend your application on My Page and My applications. This can be done when 15 days or less remains before the "delete date". You will receive a reminder 15 days before the "delete date" and have plenty of time to extend.

The application can be extended as many times as you wish until you are allocated a housing unit.

Good luck!! 🤞
