Miljøuka 2020 = The Environmental Week

Hurray! 19.- 23. October, SSN finally organizes The Environmental Week! Every day throughout this week, we will give you good environmental tips, smart advice on sustainability and inspiring events with a green focus. The events will be livestreamed so that everyone can attend!

This week was originally scheduled for March 2020 with activities such as flea markets, clothing swap market, bicycle workshop, etc. All of this, like so much else in March 2020, was cancelled due to the corona situation.

Green focus for a whole week in October!

We are trying again this October, but with a slightly different framework. There will be a green focus throughout the week and we will have physical events every day that will be livestreamed to all campuses.

The events will relate to:

  • saving food
  • redesign
  • waste sorting and zero waste
  • cheap and sustainable cooking
  • financial advice

In addition, there will be the launch of the Environmental Fund, refuse clearing and a green focus in the eateries, bookshops and kindergartens.

Throughout the week there will be a lot of useful information and fun challenges in social media, so stay tuned to our channels on Instagram and Facebook

You will find all the events on our Facebook-pages.

You are also very welcome to participate at the physical events, we would like to have the audience! Link to ticket booking (it is free of charge) can be found under each event in the program below. The events are held only in Norwegian.

PROGRAM

"Miljøuka" / The Environmental Week 2020
(19. - 23. October):

Monday, 19 October:

6.00 pm: Opening of The Environmental Week.

We are launching the Environmental Fund!

6.30 pm: Food rescue by Susanne Nesse from “Spis opp maten” (Eat All Your Food).

On average, Norwegians throw away more than 42 kilos of edible food each year. Can we manage to reduce this? Susanne Nesse works with the interconnection between food, sustainability and food waste, and wants to inspire us to become so-called food rescuers.

The event will be broadcasted live from Studenthuset in Vestfold, and livestreamed on Facebook.

Do you want to be in the audience? Book tickets for the event here (completely free, but we need an overview of who and how many come according to event rules in corona time!).

Tuesday, October 20:

6.00 pm: Redesign with Kristin Vaag.

The clothing industry is one of the really big environmental villains, and the major problem for us Norwegians is the throwaway culture. Or the lack of any use at all. In Norway, many tons of brand new clothes are thrown away each year. In order to do something about this problem, we all need to get better at wearing clothes longer, swapping, buying used, repairing and redesigning. Kristin Vaag gives us some good tips to follow.

The event will be broadcasted live from Studenthuset in Vestfold, and livestreamed on Facebook.

Do you want to be in the audience? Book tickets for the event here (completely free, but we need an overview of who and how many come according to event rules in corona time!).

Wednesday, October 21:

From 1.00 pm: Soup and trash.

Get a bowl of free soup at your local SSN-eatery, grab a garbage bag and go out into the immediate vicinity and collect rubbish. Join forces with some friends if you want to :)

Post a picture on Instagram of all the garbage you have picked up and tag us @ssn_student or send us an email with your picture to: [email protected]

Everyone who sends us a "garbage picture" is in the drawing of great environment friendly goodie bags!

You are more than welcome to register your group on Ryddenorge.no! Here you can add where, how much and what you have cleared.

6 pm: Zero waste.

Can you produce less waste? Kristine Ullaland from Zero Waste is an expert on how to achieve an everyday life that produces as little waste as possible. Lets get inspired!

The event is broadcasted live from Kristin Ullaland’s kitchen in Bergen, and livestreamed to us on Facebook.

12.00: Environmental quiz from Kroa in Bø.

Thursday, October 22:

4.30 pm: "Money talk" - financial advice.

Karin Slaattelid and Elisabeth Dyrli Jordanger from SSN's finance department offer financial advice to students. In this lecture, they offer super tips on how students can get their finances in order and make their money last longer.

5.00 pm: Dinner for 25 kroner.

Marie Thrane is the author of a cookery book and the creator of the Instagram profile Dinner for 25 kroner. She is concerned with how we can cook cheaply and sustainably, and has plenty of good tips to offer.

The events are conducted live at Café Papirbredden in Drammen and are livestreamed on Facebook. NB! At these events we serve food - free of charge!

Do you want to be in the audience? Book tickets for the event here (completely free of charge, but we need an overview of who and how many come according to event rules in corona time!).

Friday, October 23:

Have a nice, green weekend!
